Entrepreneurship Academy helps housing authority residents pursue dream

B体育官网入口鈥檚 Continuing Education department is partnering with the Gainesville Housing Authority to provide training and education programs for GHA staff and residents.
GHA staff are engaging in training to help them better serve residents.
A new Entrepreneurship Academy was created and customized to support the needs of the residents interested in starting their own business. The Academy includes seven educational sessions and a culminating visit to the Center for Innovation and Economic Development (CIED) at the Blount Center.
Additional initiatives are in the planning stages for GED and Industry workforce credential programs for all residents.
Lisa Anderson, coordinator, for Continuing Education & Workforce Development, and James Coats, Executive Director, for Community Engagement & Continuing Education, have worked closely with GHA to develop the programs.
鈥淭his is an exciting time for this partnership as we enrich our community by providing these opportunities and assisting the Gainesville Housing Authority in bringing their vision to life,鈥 Anderson said. 鈥淲e are excited about the future and what we can accomplish together.鈥
The (GHA) is hosting an open house on Thursday, May 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gainesville Housing Authority鈥檚 ELITE (Empowerment, Lifeskills, Innovation, Training and Entrepreneurship) Training Center located at 2626 East University Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32641. The center helps families transition out of affordable housing and find a path to own their own home.
Attendees will be able to learn more about GED classes, industry certifications and athe entrepreneurship program.
The event is free to the public--open to Gainesville Housing Residents and the broader Gainesville community.
